United Cerebral Palsy of the Inland Empire (UCPIE) is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to advancing the independence, productivity, and full citizenship of people with disabilities. Our mission is to provide programs and services that support individuals with cerebral palsy, autism, down syndrome, epilepsy, intellectual delay, and other disabilities.

Job Summary

The Respite Worker will provide temporary care and supervision for individuals with developmental disabilities in the Coachella area. This is a part-time position that requires community driving and visiting families in their homes. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, be able to work independently, and have experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide intermittent, regular scheduled, temporary care and supervision for individuals with developmental disabilities
* Work a minimum of two hours at each respite appointment
* Follow instructions for the care of clients and siblings as outlined by parent(s)/guardian(s)
* Assist clients with daily living tasks such as feeding, dressing, toileting, bathing, grooming, and light meal preparation
* Use safety precautions at all times when providing care to clients and siblings
* Report suspected incidents of abuse to the Respite Program Manager and complete required documentation
* Maintain certification of CPR and First Aid at all times
* Adhere to policies and procedures in the employee handbook and respite fundamental training manual

Requirements

* High school diploma or equivalent
* 2 years' experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
* Strong written and oral communication skills
* Computer proficiency
* CPR and First Aid certification
* Clean TB test every 4 years
* Valid driver's license
* Valid vehicle registration
* Valid vehicle insurance
* Clear security clearance through the FBI and DOJ
* Legally eligible to work in the U.S.A.

Work Environment

This position requires community driving and visiting families in their homes. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and have strong communication skills. The work environment is fast-paced and requires the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.

Physical Demands

The physical demands of this position include the ability to lift, pull, push, run, and manipulate adaptive equipment and patients. The employee must also be able to perform CPR and administer First Aid. The position requires sitting and/or standing for long periods of time and the ability to operate an automobile and a computer.

Travel

This position requires daily travel to the client's home. The travel will not exceed 40 miles unless approved by the Respite Program Manager.
