Park Operations Manager Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Park Operations Manager to join our team at the Town of Greenwich, CT. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the administrative and technical operations of our parks, facilities, and natural areas.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage work priorities in coordination with the Superintendent of Parks and Trees
  • Supervise maintenance crews and foremen in tasks such as turf maintenance, pruning, planting, and equipment operation
  • Inspect fields, lawns, and plants for disease or insect damage and take soil samples for analysis when necessary
  • Oversee the application and control of pesticides and chemicals, ensuring compliance with State statutes
  • Manage new construction and improvements in our parks, facilities, and natural areas
  • Responsible for managing snow operations and supervising contractors
  • Coordinate grounds and facility setup for special events and identify, evaluate, and purchase equipment and tools needed for daily operations
  • Manage the Town and Board of Education playground facilities and coordinate quarterly inspections and maintenance work
  • Develop and supervise the division's in-service training and safety program
  • Address questions and complaints from the public and assist in department budget administration
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Ornamental Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Turf Management, or Landscape Design from an accredited college or university, or a related field plus five (5) years experience in turf and grounds management, including supervisory experience
  • Connecticut Custom Grounds Applicator's Supervisory License at time of appointment or an equivalent license from another state
  • Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certification within six (6) months of hire
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of ornamental horticulture and turf management, as well as public administration and budgeting
  • Proven ability to plan and layout work, supervise workers and volunteers, and establish and maintain positive working relationships
