$$$ The City is currently offering a $10,000 signing bonus for lateral corrections officers. This bonus will be disbursed in three installments: $3,000 on the first paycheck after hiring, $3,000 upon successful completion of the field training program, and $4,000 after the successful completion of the new hire's probationary period. This totals $10,000 in your first year in addition to our competitive salary.

As a Correctional Services Officer, you will be integral to the operations of our city jail. Your responsibilities will include ensuring the security and well-being of inmates, overseeing daily activities, and collaborating closely with other law enforcement professionals.

This role is dynamic and requires strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and the capacity to work independently. You must be able to understand and respect the diverse cultures, languages, disabilities, and socio-economic backgrounds of those you interact with.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the security and welfare of inmates.
  • Supervise, observe, escort, and secure inmates during daily activities.
  • Perform duties such as fingerprinting, initial custody taking, and inmate booking and release.
  • Operate a control room and monitor closed-circuit television cameras and emergency monitors.

Essential Functions:
  • Ensure the security and welfare of inmates; supervise daily activities; screen items entering and exiting inmate cells; conduct routine security checks; maintain assigned areas in an orderly manner.
  • Observe, direct, escort, and supervise inmates during daily activities including meals, court appearances, work details, and appointments.
  • Supervise inmate visitation to ensure safety and security.
  • Perform fingerprinting duties for the Records division of the Police Department.
  • Process and book prisoners, ensuring proper documentation and safety protocols are followed.
  • Communicate effectively with other jail personnel regarding activities and incidents.
  • Coordinate the release of inmates for court appearances or health needs.
  • Maintain records and logs related to daily activities and inmate management.
  • Operate control room equipment and monitor security systems.
  • Assist with various functions within the jail as needed.
Qualifications:

High school graduation and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above. Previous corrections experience is preferred.

Special Qualifications:
  • Pass a medical exam, psychological evaluation, and background investigation.
  • Complete physical fitness testing and Criminal Justice Training Corrections Academy.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Valid first aid and CPR certification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to jail operations.
  • Skills in effective communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to ensure the safety and security of inmates and work effectively with diverse populations.
