Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Technologist to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a critical role in maintaining the sterile field and anticipating the needs of the surgical team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organize and prioritize patient care preparation in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team under the direction of the circulating nurse.
  • Differentiate between sterile and unsterile items processed by various sterilization methods.
  • Demonstrate principles of aseptic technique and sterile conscience.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of surgical procedures.
  • Aware of environmental safety practices for patient self and team at all times.
  • Support operating room procedures.
  • Interface effectively with peers and customers and assume responsibility for professional development of self and others per departmental policy.
  • Demonstrate leadership in the delivery of technical patient care.
Requirements
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent required.
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Training Program required.
  • No experience required, but relevant experience preferred.
  • Certified to practice as a Surgical Technologist by NBSTSA or NCCT required.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
  • Current registration with the Virginia Board of Medicine required at time of hire.
Physical Demands

The job requires standing for prolonged periods, repetitive motion, lifting heavy instrument sets, and exposure to cold, radiation, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
