Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range for this position reflects a nationwide market range and encompasses a variety of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary will be influenced by several factors, including the complexity and scope of the role, the candidate's skills, education, training, credentials, experience, and other employment conditions. Additionally, employees are eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards as part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program.

What Is the Opportunity?

As the Vice President of Technology Architecture, you will spearhead the initiative to establish the technology target state for the Applied Modernization Unit within a global, Dow 30 company. Reporting directly to a member of the Enterprise Architecture and Emerging Technology leadership team, you will engage with senior technology leaders to transform our existing business and technology capabilities, paving the way for superior solutions. You will collaborate closely with senior Technology and Business leaders to define a target state, develop roadmaps, and identify new and emerging technologies that will enhance and optimize the business. As a leader, you will inspire and mentor a team of high-performing Architects, fostering their growth and development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee a significant segment of Technology Architecture in support of the Applied Modernization business unit.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership in Technology and Business to establish architecture priorities and directions that align with business objectives.
  • Exhibit strong thought leadership in modern architecture principles and technology modernization.
  • Drive ongoing technology transformation to reduce technical debt.
  • Build partnerships with Senior Software Engineering leadership.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage technological advancements through analysis of industry trends and their potential impact on the enterprise.
  • Lead technology proof of concepts to validate new architectural solutions.
  • Define target state technology architecture and develop roadmaps.
  • Ensure alignment of IT initiatives with the established target state.
  • Foster strong collaboration with engineering teams to align skills with technology direction.
  • Prepare and deliver comprehensive communications regarding architectural direction and its alignment with enterprise strategy.
  • Optimize talent strategy to ensure a balanced mix of resources and attract top talent.
  • Continuously enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the architecture.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field or equivalent, with over 10 years of experience in technology architecture.
  • Experience mentoring architecture leaders.
  • Demonstrated organizational and transformational leadership experience in an agile environment.
  • Expertise in Software Engineering.
  • Proven experience in developing strategic technology direction and architectural vision.
  • Experience in creating technology target states and roadmaps aligned with business goals.
  • Track record of influencing C-level leadership.
  • Experience in insurance technology.
  • Strong understanding of value creation and business capability models.
  • Commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to drive decision-making processes.
  • Passion for technology transformations.
  • Hands-on experience within the last three years.
  • Experience executing technology modernization initiatives, including cloud migration and API strategy.
  • Current experience with AWS, APIs, Accelerators, or DevSecOps.
  • Cloud Architecture Certification (AWS, GCP, or Azure) or substantial architecture experience in the cloud.
  • Good understanding of security protocols.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Eight years of experience in enterprise, application, and/or information architecture within a business or enterprise area.
  • Two years of previous management experience.
