About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Water Resources Engineer to join our team at Stantec. As a key member of our environmental services group, you will play a critical role in advancing our water resources practice, focusing on FEMA Flood Studies, Watershed Modeling, Flood Mitigation, Stormwater Studies, and Application Development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and manage watershed and flood studies, and stormwater management projects, ensuring timely completion and high-quality results.
  • Oversee hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tasks for various water resources projects, including dams, levee systems, watershed, and floodplain studies, and stormwater systems.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Assist in FEMA Risk Map studies and USACE H&H analyses, providing expert technical guidance and support.
  • Mentor and supervise junior engineers and technicians, fostering their growth and development within the team.
  • Effectively communicate project information, task schedules, and results in technical documents, ensuring clear and concise communication with clients and stakeholders.
  • Conduct field investigations on various projects, including dam inspections, hydrology and hydraulic evaluations, and levee inspections.
  • Present project information at client and community meetings, providing expert technical presentations and insights.
Requirements
  • Prior experience in FEMA Risk Map and Floodplain/Watershed Studies, with a strong understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Prior experience in task or project management, especially FEMA Risk Map studies, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality results.
  • Prior experience working with local, state, federal, or watershed/flood control district clients, with a strong understanding of their needs and requirements.
  • Required Engineering Software experience: USACE HEC-RAS (1D and 2D), with proficiency in using this software for hydrologic and hydraulic modeling.
  • Preferred Engineering Software experience: USACE HEC-HMS, EPA-SWMM, PC-SWMM, ESRI ArcGIS, with a strong understanding of their applications and benefits.
  • Possesses excellent time management skills, with a thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting, and efficient use of time and resources.
  • Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agencies, providing clear and concise communication and expert technical guidance.
  • Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation, with a strong understanding of industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness, manage time to meet project budget and schedule, and participate in project team settings.
  • Prior experience mentoring junior engineering staff or technicians, with a strong understanding of their growth and development needs.
  • Possesses team leadership skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong presentation and interview skills.
Education and Experience
  • BS or MS degree in Civil, Biosystems, or Environmental Engineering or related field, with a strong understanding of industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • PE Certification required, with a strong understanding of industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • 5-10 years' related experience, with a strong understanding of industry standards and regulatory requirements.
