Job Summary

The District of Columbia Courts is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Attorney Negotiator to join our Domestic Violence Division. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for reviewing cases, interviewing litigants, identifying legal issues, and negotiating proposed orders for judicial consideration.

Responsibilities

  • Review cases and identify legal issues related to civil protection orders, custody, visitation, financial support, child support, and distribution of property.
  • Negotiate and draft proposed orders for judicial consideration.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda of law.
  • Monitor and track changes in legislation that impact the domestic violence division.
  • Conduct training on domestic violence for employees, judicial officers, outside agencies, schools, and other interest groups.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited university or college with a law degree and admission to practice law before the Courts of the District of Columbia.
  • At least three years of Domestic Violence practice with experience in Family Law preferred.
  • Ability to speak, interpret, read, and write Spanish and English fluently.
