Job Description

Legal Aid Society of DC is seeking a motivated and dedicated intern to join our Domestic Violence and Family Law unit. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of cases, including civil protection orders, custody, child support, and divorce. You will also participate in community outreach, interview prospective clients, and engage in systemic reform efforts.

Responsibilities:
  • Learn about all substantive issue areas we handle
  • Shadow at court-based projects
  • Drafting motions and other filings
  • Conducting legal research and writing memoranda
  • Contacting existing clients to provide updates or obtain information
  • Conducting intake interviews with new applicants
  • Contacting potential witnesses
  • Drafting hearing notes/trial materials
  • Reviewing and analyzing evidence
  • Assist with trial preparation
  • Attending court hearings

Requirements: Current law school student or graduate interested in public interest and/or domestic violence/family law.

Scholarship Funding: Legal Aid Society of DC can provide scholarship funding to ensure that summer law students receive no less than $6,125 per summer.
