Paraprofessional Support Specialist

The Paraprofessional Support Specialist provides critical support to teachers and students in a classroom setting, assisting with instructional activities and ensuring a positive and productive learning environment. This role is crucial in helping students achieve their educational goals and addressing individual needs.
Key Responsibilities- Assist educators in preparing and delivering instructional materials and activities, promoting student engagement and understanding.
- Support students with special needs, including those with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, or behavioral challenges, by providing individualized attention and accommodations.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students as directed by the teacher, fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Supervise students during classroom activities, lunch, recess, and other school-related functions, ensuring student safety and well-being.
- Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and assist with behavioral interventions, working collaboratively with teachers and other support staff.
- Monitor student progress and report observations to the teacher, providing valuable insights and recommendations for student success.
- Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment, adhering to school policies and procedures.
- Assist with administrative tasks, such as grading and record-keeping, ensuring accurate and timely completion of tasks.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff, building strong relationships and promoting a positive school culture.
- Participate in professional development opportunities as required, staying up-to-date on best practices and industry trends.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associates degree or higher, or completion of at least 60 college semester credits preferred.
- Previous experience working with children, particularly in an educational setting, is advantageous.
- Must meet the Minnesota Department of Education's requirements for paraprofessionals, which typically include passing a state-approved test or holding an associate's degree or higher.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting student learning and development.
- Ability to follow instructions and adapt to the needs of students.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills and familiarity with educational software.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and move throughout the school day.
- Background check and fingerprinting as required by Minnesota state law.
- Completion of any additional training or certification as required by the school district.
