Job Summary

The Paraprofessional Support Specialist provides critical support to teachers and students in a classroom setting, assisting with instructional activities and ensuring a positive and productive learning environment. This role is crucial in helping students achieve their educational goals and addressing individual needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist educators in preparing and delivering instructional materials and activities, promoting student engagement and understanding.
  • Support students with special needs, including those with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, or behavioral challenges, by providing individualized attention and accommodations.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students as directed by the teacher, fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Supervise students during classroom activities, lunch, recess, and other school-related functions, ensuring student safety and well-being.
  • Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and assist with behavioral interventions, working collaboratively with teachers and other support staff.
  • Monitor student progress and report observations to the teacher, providing valuable insights and recommendations for student success.
  • Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment, adhering to school policies and procedures.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, such as grading and record-keeping, ensuring accurate and timely completion of tasks.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff, building strong relationships and promoting a positive school culture.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities as required, staying up-to-date on best practices and industry trends.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associates degree or higher, or completion of at least 60 college semester credits preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children, particularly in an educational setting, is advantageous.
Certifications and Skills
  • Must meet the Minnesota Department of Education's requirements for paraprofessionals, which typically include passing a state-approved test or holding an associate's degree or higher.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting student learning and development.
  • Ability to follow instructions and adapt to the needs of students.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills and familiarity with educational software.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and move throughout the school day.
Additional Requirements
  • Background check and fingerprinting as required by Minnesota state law.
  • Completion of any additional training or certification as required by the school district.
