Civil Engineering Field Representative

Thomas & Hutton is a leading civil engineering firm providing consulting services throughout the southeast. Our services include Civil, Environmental, Structural and Marine Engineering; Land Surveying; Land Planning; Landscape Architecture; Geographic Information Systems and Construction Administration.

We are seeking a Field Representative to join our Civil Engineering Department in our Mount Pleasant, SC office.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine construction observation services for land development projects involving utilities and pavement construction under periodic supervision.
  • Act as a liaison between the supervisor or Project Manager and contractor.
  • Assist Project Managers in effectively administering construction contracts.
  • Seek guidance in resolving project-related issues.
  • Prepare project-related correspondence as necessary.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
  • Manage time effectively to meet project deadlines and client needs.
  • Visit project sites to review conditions as needed.
  • Attend and participate in meetings with clients, contractors, or resource agencies as necessary.
  • Arrange and conduct job progress meetings.
  • Maintain a daily job log and be familiar with plans and specifications.
  • Have initial supervised exposure to clients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Occasional overnight or extended travel may be required for projects.
Education:

A Construction Management Degree or High School Diploma and equivalent experience.

Experience:

Previous internship or experience in the construction field.

Requirements:
  • Familiarity with erosion, sedimentation, and pollution control, CEPCI certification a plus.
  • Familiarity with pavement construction.
  • Ability to understand project plans and specifications.
  • Strong communication, verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to produce concise reporting.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
