Job Summary

Advantage Behavioral Health Systems is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our team in providing high-quality care to clients with behavioral health and/or substance use disorders. As a Registered Nurse, you will play a vital role in delivering direct, technical nursing care functions in accordance with individual nursing care plans and as directed by attending physicians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Treatment Planning and Coordination
    • Assure treatment planning, discharge planning, and orders for services are determined and complete with second signatures (if needed).
  • Client Education and Support
    • Provide education to clients about medications and treatment.
    • Explain medication and treatment to clients.
    • Identify clients' health education/information needs; instruct clients accordingly. Solicit feedback from clients to verify understanding.
    • Advise clients on health maintenance and refer clients to other healthcare services as appropriate.
  • Medication Administration and Management
    • Administer medication(s) in the proper methods, time, and dosage as ordered and indicated by prescribers. This can include both oral and injection medications.
    • Observe and record client response to medication for side effects or adverse effects; immediately report any significant reactions to attending prescribers.
  • Supply Management and Coordination
    • Maintain adequate supply of necessary medications, samples, and lab supplies needed.
    • Conduct and record audits of medications for expiration dates and other data according to established guidelines.
    • Coordinate with Business Manager for re-ordering of lab supplies needed.
  • Health Screenings and Lab Work
    • Perform various health screenings according to established guidelines.
    • Take vital signs and perform other tests (such as glucose monitoring, pregnancy tests, UDS, etc.) as required by prescribers following established guidelines.
    • Collect specimens for diagnostic testing according to established procedures.
    • Order lab work per protocol. Perform lab draws. Use CLIA-waivered lab equipment for in-agency lab work and obtain lab results from lab work performed by commercial labs.
  • Assessments and Documentation
    • Provide initial and on-going assessments. Interview clients to obtain thorough medical history and/or determine extent of illness. Enter this into client chart for use by prescribers.
    • These assessments include initial and yearly nursing assessments minimally, but can also include follow-ups in between prescriber appointments.
    • Also, RNs may complete on-going behavioral health assessments (when appropriate) for clients.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Provide outpatient behavioral health psychoeducational groups to clients as appropriate.
    • Respond to clients in acute distress according to established guidelines.
    • Additional duties as assigned.
