Job Summary

The College of Agricultural Sciences, Penn State Extension - Franklin County seeks a highly skilled and compassionate Part-time Therapeutic Riding Instructor to join our team at the Franklin County 4-H Therapeutic Riding Center. As a member of our team, you will collaborate with other members of the therapeutic riding center to provide exceptional instruction and care to students with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach horseback riding lessons to students in the therapeutic riding center, maintaining an active group of 10-15 lessons per week during the program's active session.
  • Develop and submit lesson plans for each student, ensuring a tailored and engaging experience.
  • Work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator to teach volunteers horsemanship skills, promoting a culture of teamwork and knowledge sharing.
  • Assist in planning and organizing center horse shows, showcasing the skills and progress of our students.
  • Procure and train program horses, ensuring their suitability for lessons and the well-being of our students.
  • Attend required staff meetings and training sessions, staying up-to-date on best practices and industry developments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the Franklin County 4-H Therapeutic Riding Center.
Requirements
  • PATH or PACTH Registered certification is strongly preferred; progress in a recognized program leading to such certification is also acceptable.
  • Previous experience teaching horseback riding and/or driving lessons is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities is preferred, demonstrating a commitment to inclusivity and accessibility.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle as part of job duties, with a valid US driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check required.
