Job Summary

A research technician position is available in a dynamic laboratory environment at the Virginia Commonwealth University, School of Medicine. The successful candidate will assist in conducting research projects, including animal handling, tissue processing, and laboratory management.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct and assist in animal work, including surgery, drug administration, behavior tests, perfusion, and maintaining mouse colonies.
• Assist other staff and students in the completion of protocols, such as tissue processing, histological and immunohistological staining, Western blotting, and microscopic analysis.
• Perform general lab management tasks, including chemical and animal inventories, ordering supplies, and routine maintenance of lab equipment.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Neuroscience, or a related field is required.
• Demonstrated experience working in a diverse environment and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment.
• Experience in working with animals and cultures, as well as a background in cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and immunology.
• Ability to work independently and possess good written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of safe laboratory practices is required for all job duties.
• Experience in a biology research lab is preferred.
