Job Summary

The Anesthesia Technician plays a vital role in maintaining the readiness of anesthesia service areas for use by anesthesiologists and anesthetists. This includes all operating rooms in the main OR, Cysto, and additional service areas such as OB, Radiology, MRI, pre-op, and PACU facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain anesthesia equipment and supplies in accordance with established protocols.
  • Ensure proper workflow in anesthesia areas and maintain accountability to the Manager of Anesthesia Support Services and the OR manager.
  • Work independently and may act as a preceptor to train new staff members.
  • Comply with all applicable infection control, health, and safety policies and procedures implemented by the department and/or work unit and UCSF Medical Center.
Requirements
  • One year of experience as an Anesthesia Technician.
  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic mathematical skills to quickly and accurately perform calculations.
  • Knowledge of medical/surgical and anesthetic terminology.
  • Ability to work independently with good organizational skills and communicate effectively with colleagues.
  • Ability to see well and read in dim light, distinguish colors on anesthesia monitors, and manipulate small equipment.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure and lift up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification as an Anesthesia Technician.
