Position: Musical Instrument Repair Specialist

The primary objective of this role is to restore musical instruments efficiently and effectively, ensuring they are returned to optimal playing condition. A technician may focus on a specific category of instruments or handle a variety of them.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently repairs instruments returned from rentals.
  • Guarantees that each instrument is serviced according to established quality standards.
  • Keeps precise records for production tracking.
  • Performs additional tasks as required.

Founded in 1952, Music & Arts began in a modest location and has grown to become a leader in the music retail industry. Initially offering printed music and lessons, the company has since focused on musical instruments to better serve its clientele.

Over the years, Music & Arts has expanded its reach through organic growth and strategic acquisitions, becoming the largest retailer of band and orchestra instruments in the United States. With a base in Frederick, MD, it is now part of the Guitar Center enterprise, encompassing over 200 retail locations and numerous educational representatives.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • Completion of an apprenticeship or diploma from an accredited repair institution is required.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
  • Ability to utilize standard repair shop tools and equipment.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience working with musical instruments daily.
  • Competent understanding and ability to repair brass, woodwind, percussion, and orchestral instruments efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4 years of relevant experience in daily musical instrument repair.
  • Advanced skills in repairing brass, woodwind, percussion, and orchestral instruments.
Essential Attributes:
  • Goal-oriented with a focus on quality repairs.
  • Ability to accept guidance and feedback from management.
  • Strong problem-solving and technical skills for diagnosing and repairing instruments.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a close-knit environment.
