Position Overview:

As an Advanced Materials Research Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in the exploration and development of cutting-edge 2D materials, specifically tungsten disulfide (WS2), which are poised to revolutionize future logic chip technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct experimental research to support innovative investigations into ultra-scaled channel transistor technologies as part of a collaborative international initiative.
  • Focus on the identification, development, and optimization of WS2 interface layers and treatments to ensure high-quality channel/dielectric interfaces for transistor gate stacks through Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD).
  • Screen and evaluate new interlayer materials and processing methods, while devising surface preparation and treatment strategies to enhance interface layer reliability and uniformity.
  • Lead research efforts at local facilities, collaborating closely with teams to optimize the atomic layer deposition of high dielectric constant oxides on two-dimensional materials.
  • Coordinate lab research activities with international teams, ensuring seamless integration of findings into Imec's advanced clean-room facilities.
  • Engage in coupon-level fabrication and basic device characterization, working alongside semiconductor pilot lines and established device testing laboratories.
  • Collaborate with device physicists, designers, and process integration engineers to enhance device development and integration processes.
  • Participate actively in project and team meetings, contributing to a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Material Science, Physics, or Chemistry, with a robust background (3 to 5+ years) in a related research domain.
  • Proven expertise in the deposition and characterization of material interfaces, as well as thin films on two-dimensional materials.
  • Extensive knowledge of surface preparation and physical characterization techniques for nanoscale thin films.
  • Hands-on experience with advanced laboratory and clean-room facilities, including physical characterization methods such as TEM and Raman spectroscopy.
  • Proficient in analyzing electrical device characterization data.
  • Strong understanding of the innovation process, demonstrating self-motivation, independence, and a results-driven approach.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills to facilitate collaboration among research groups and project partners.
  • Adaptability to work in an international context, with a willingness to engage in short and long-term assignments as required.
