As a Mechanical Engineering Specialist or Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will deliver mechanical project engineering support through comprehensive review, research, analysis, design, communication, coordination, and field observation activities. Your role will involve assisting in the successful execution of mechanical project scope, ensuring alignment with the customer's expectations and the institution's standards. You will collaborate with project managers to resolve engineering challenges on various projects. Your responsibilities will include reviewing and providing feedback on engineering work conducted by external architectural and engineering firms. This position requires close collaboration with all project team members throughout the planning, design, construction, and warranty phases. Additionally, you will offer post-project facility engineering consultation and provide design, analysis, and field engineering support for selected projects and Physical Facilities programs. You will also extend facilities engineering support to operations and maintenance personnel and other departments as needed, along with conducting condition assessments for the building condition assessment program. Furthermore, you will engage in activities related to the development and maintenance of institutional design standards.
This position is available at two levels, with the Hiring Manager determining the appropriate level upon selection.

This department is responsible for capital construction project planning, design, and delivery, collaborating with architects, engineers, contractors, and various internal departments to meet the needs of the campus community. The engineering group within Capital Asset Management consists of dynamic experts providing project engineering, facilities engineering, consultation, and condition assessment services.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
For the Mechanical Engineering Specialist role, candidates should possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology with a mechanical focus.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in mechanical engineering, including:
- Design, analysis, condition assessment, project engineering, and facilities engineering experience in building mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with HVAC system commissioning and control concepts is preferred.
- Experience with energy-efficient design concepts is desirable.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or Microstation drafting is advantageous.
- Consideration will be given to equivalent combinations of education and experience.
- Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification is preferred.
- A Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology with a mechanical emphasis is required.
- Indiana Professional Engineer (PE) registration is required or the ability to obtain it within 90 days.
- A minimum of four (4) years of experience in mechanical engineering, with equivalent combinations of education and experience considered:
- Design, analysis, condition assessment, project engineering, and facilities engineering experience in building mechanical systems.
- Experience with HVAC system commissioning and control concepts is preferred.
- Familiarity with energy-efficient design concepts is desirable.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or Microstation drafting is advantageous.
- For the Mechanical Engineering Specialist role, candidates should demonstrate:
- A solid understanding of fundamental engineering principles and techniques, including planning, equipment, and materials used in engineering operations, as well as specialized subjects such as mathematics, statistics, mechanics, power, physics, and chemistry.
- The ability to apply engineering principles to practical problems and utilize engineering tools, including computer applications, while interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The capability to:
- Translate abstract concepts into actionable solutions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Perform assigned tasks with appropriate engineering oversight and guidance.
- Analyze and design engineering solutions with regular oversight.
- Exercise professional judgment within defined parameters.
