We are seeking a Visual Performance Engineer / Camera Quality Specialist to enhance the visual excellence of our products. This role will focus on the practical aspects of image acquisition, organization, testing, and analysis.

Role Overview

As a Visual Performance Engineer at Glass Imaging, you will play a crucial role in evaluating and refining our camera algorithms. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting thorough quality evaluations of new features and algorithms in both controlled laboratory settings and real-world scenarios.
  • Creating image assessment workflows, processes, and documentation to track the advancement of image processing across various platforms.
  • Actively participating in the evaluation and development of essential image processing techniques.
  • Delivering constructive feedback directly to our engineering teams based on your assessments.
  • Overseeing image data collection labs and collaborating closely with machine learning engineers to curate and organize new datasets.
  • Being an integral part of a dynamic, collaborative team that thrives in a fast-paced startup environment.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Art, or Film.
  • Experience in photography or videography, with a strong artistic and technical perspective.
  • Proficiency in photo and video editing software such as Lightroom, Photoshop, or similar applications.
  • Programming experience in Python.
  • Able to analyze image quality from test captures, assess artifacts, and effectively rank extensive sets of images.
  • Possess a solid understanding of historical and emerging trends in image capture and processing.
  • Proficient in traditional camera pipelines and digital imaging processes, including HDR, image fusion, and low light imaging.
  • Experience with camera lab equipment and familiarity with standard camera system operations in a testing environment.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and create clear presentations and reports.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven ability to conduct photographic field tests with various scenes and developed protocols for efficient data collection.
  • Understanding of typical camera ISP blocks and experience with tuning camera ISP pipelines.
  • Knowledge of human visual perception, color science, and camera testing methodologies.
  • Experience with scripting in Python, Bash, and Linux/OSX for automation and data processing.
  • Familiarity with Python image processing libraries for automating image pre-processing tasks.
  • Experience in mobile app development (iOS / Android).
  • Experience with microcontrollers and lab automation.
  • Understanding of digital signal & image processing, computer graphics, and machine learning.
