We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Police Officer II to join our team at the University of North Texas System. As a key member of our public safety team, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our students, faculty, and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct regular patrols of campus areas, including buildings, parking lots, and surrounding areas, to prevent and detect criminal activity.
- Investigate reports of criminal behavior and university regulations, and take appropriate action to ensure compliance.
- Arrest and detain individuals who violate laws and university regulations, and file charges as necessary.
- Issue citations for parking and traffic violations, and conduct traffic accident investigations.
- Prepare written and oral reports on completed investigative activities and calls, and testify in court as needed.
- Enforce traffic laws and direct traffic on public streets, and protect lives and property.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Chief of Police or police supervisory personnel.
- Must have a High School diploma or GED, and be at least 21 years of age.
- Licensed in Texas as a Basic Police Officer, and a minimum of two years of post-academy police experience.
- Must be of good moral character, and able to furnish acceptable character references.
- Ability to understand and abide by the Police Officers Code of Ethics, and possess valid Texas Driver's License or obtain within thirty days of employment.
- Able to work long or irregular hours, on various and changing shifts, sometimes under severe emotional stress and inclement weather.
- Exercise good judgment and utilize tact and courtesy when working with the public under frequently stressful conditions.
- Able to react quickly and effectively under emergency situations.
- Demonstrate professional demeanor and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to formulate solutions to problems in accordance with statutes, regulations, and training.
- Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
- Ability to operate computer with a general understanding of application software, and an understanding of the Internet.
- Microsoft applications.
- Bachelor's Degree in business, criminal justice, sociology, computer science, or related field.
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
- Licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
Rotating 12 hour shifts.
Driving University VehicleYes.
Security SensitiveThis is a Security Sensitive Position.
