Job Summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking Police Officers to join our law enforcement team in Dallas, Texas. As a Police Officer, you will have the opportunity to grow your career in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Responsibilities
  • Enforce rules and regulations of the Board of Regents, institutional rules and regulations, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Preserve the peace by using all lawful means, interceding when authorized by law to prevent or suppress crime.
  • Arrest offenders with and without warrant when authorized by law.
  • Execute all lawful processes.
  • Investigate all criminal offenses to detect and arrest criminals and to recover lost or stolen property.
  • Attempt to locate missing persons.
  • Enforce traffic law by detecting violations, making violator custody or issuing citations or warnings. Investigate motor vehicle collisions.
  • Prepare various written reports narrating law enforcement and police activities.
  • Give testimony in the criminal courts of this state and the United States.
  • Confer with prosecuting attorneys, preserve evidence, and maintain confidential information.
  • Confer with local law enforcement, criminal justice, and emergency response agencies on matters of mutual interest.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent and no experience required.
  • Successful completion of a TCOLE approved Basic Peace Officer Course issued by the State of Texas Commission on Law Enforcement and passed the TCOLE exam.
  • Incumbent must hold a Peace Officer Commission issued by the University of Texas System and a valid State of Texas driver's license not subject to suspension.
  • Must be eligible to drive a University-owned or leased motor vehicle.
  • Must successfully complete a minimum six-month probationary review period immediately following commission as a Police Officer. Failure to successfully complete such period will result in reduction to rank previously held.
  • Must meet certain prerequisites established by the Office of Director of Police, Board of Regents, and TCOLE concerning age requirements and physical, mental, and educational standards.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Sixty (60) college hours from an accredited college or university.
  • Possess Basic Peace Officer Certification from the TCOLE.
  • Successful completion of the prescribed Field Training Program.
  • All offers of employment are contingent upon a verified negative drug screen.
