Cardiac Rhythm Observer

As a member of a patient care team, the Monitor Technician plays a vital role in the observation, interpretation, and monitoring of displayed cardiac rhythms. Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, this individual is responsible for reporting promptly and accurately any deviations from baseline.
Key Responsibilities- Accurately monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms.
- Remain present at the monitor, except for breaks or when coverage is arranged.
- Report deviations in rhythms from baseline promptly to the Registered Nurse.
- Assist in identifying patient problems with Telemetry monitoring.
- Record and report data to the Registered Nurse.
- Mount monitor strips on documentation flow sheets for review by the Registered Nurse.
- Assist in identifying supplies and equipment needed for Telemetry monitoring.
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Successful completion of a course in EKG interpretation.
- Basic Life Support certification.
- Basic computer skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Ability to detect and differentiate abnormal cardiac rhythms.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Clerical experience.
- Cardiac monitoring/EKG certificate.
