Job Title: Lead Community Organizer

PICO California is a multi-racial, multi-faith state network that organizes across 18 counties and represents 500 congregations and nearly 650,000 Californians. Our mission is to catalyze faith-based and spiritually centered people power in California to create systemic change for the most vulnerable so that all Californians thrive.

We are seeking a Lead Community Organizer who will develop and implement community organizing strategies that meet the project objectives. This will be done by working with the leadership at PICO California and Inclusive Action for the City.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct outreach to recyclers to understand their needs, challenges, and aspirations.
  • Build organizing teams composed of recyclers that will lead the project's advocacy efforts.
  • Create partnerships with community-based organizations and potential advocacy partners.
  • Collaborate with Inclusive Action for the City to conduct policy research and power analysis to help determine policy campaigns to improve recyclers' working and economic conditions.
  • Organize and prepare convenings related to the project.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience in community organizing, advocacy, or a related field.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
  • Proven experience in community organizing and advocacy.
  • Ability to engage with diverse communities and foster relationships.
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategies to meet project objectives.
  • Ability to identify and assess potential project areas and communities for engagement.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining partnerships with local organizations.
  • Ability to identify and collaborate with potential policy advocacy partners.
  • Experience conducting policy research and power analysis.
