Job Title: Community Development Director

Join the City of Hermosa Beach, CA team as a Community Development Director, responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of the Community Development Department. This role involves overseeing the implementation of the City's General Plan, Zoning Ordinance, and other development plans, as well as managing the department's budget and staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, organize, and direct the activities of the Community Development Department, including planning, building, and safety, and code enforcement programs.
  • Develop and implement departmental goals, objectives, and priorities for each assigned service area.
  • Provide training and supervision for department staff, conduct staff meetings, and prepare reports for the City Manager and City Council.
  • Attend meetings, including Planning Commission and City Council meetings, and develop and implement departmental policies consistent with City Council and City Manager directives.
  • Develop, monitor, and control the department budget, and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the public.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in urban planning, public administration, architecture, engineering, or a related field.
  • Six years of progressively responsible experience in at least one area of community development, four years of which were in a responsible supervisory position.
  • Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License with a safe driving record.
  • Certification by the American Institute of City Planners (AICP) or a related organization is desirable.
