Job Title: Senior Civil Engineer

Overview

As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in directing and managing professional civil engineering activities associated with the design, upkeep, and construction of wastewater treatment facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee, assign, and evaluate engineering tasks
  • Guide, mentor, and support junior engineers and technical staff
  • Develop engineering designs, schematics, and specifications
  • Assess cost estimates and aid in financial planning
  • Plan and supervise construction initiatives
  • Coordinate maintenance of engineering equipment
  • Conduct engineering research and assessments
  • Facilitate the coordination of engineering projects

  • Execute other assigned tasks as necessary

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive understanding of civil engineering standards
  • Significant experience in supervising engineering design and construction
  • Capability to create detailed specifications, reports, and designs
  • Strong communication skills for clear and concise expression

Mandatory Qualifications

Must hold a Professional Engineer registration in the State of Illinois.

Minimum Qualifications

A degree from an accredited four-year college or university in civil, chemical, environmental, sanitary, or structural engineering, along with four years of full-time civil engineering experience relevant to the District's operations.

Substitution Policy

Full-time graduate studies in the specified engineering fields may replace the required experience on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of two years.

Promotional Criteria

  • At least one year of service with the District as an Associate Civil Engineer or Associate Structural Engineer
  • A bachelor's degree in the relevant engineering fields and one year of service with the District in designated roles
  • Civil service status in applicable classifications
