Position Overview: Amazon's Legal Department seeks a skilled attorney to provide legal support for our artificial intelligence (AI) public policy, regulatory compliance, and responsible AI initiatives within Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS delivers a diverse array of AI and machine learning (ML) services for cloud clients, enabling developers to create, train, and implement AI systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate proposed AI legislation, regulations, and guidelines, offering insights on legal and business implications.
- Formulate policy stances on the ethical use of AI and adherence to AI regulations.
- Assist in external policy discussions and engagements.
- Act as a thought leader on progressive policy, responsible AI, and compliance matters throughout the lifecycle of AI system development and deployment.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in AI, technology, or policy and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to operate independently and collaboratively within a cross-functional team.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Practical business acumen and judgment.
- Strong organizational abilities, with a capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Minimum Requirements:
- A minimum of 2 years of legal experience.
- Juris Doctor degree and membership in a state bar or equivalent.
- A blend of experience in both corporate law firms and in-house legal departments.

Compensation: Our compensation reflects the labor costs across various US geographic markets. The base salary for this role ranges from $118,400/year in our lowest geographic market to $195,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is determined by several factors, including market location, and may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company, and depending on the position, equity, sign-on bonuses, and other forms of compensation may be included as part of a comprehensive compensation package, alongside a full suite of medical, financial, and other benefits.
