Quality Engineer

Overview

The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the designated products conform to all customer purchase orders, specifications, and drawings associated with the manufacturing of the relevant hardware.


Key Responsibilities
  • Review purchase orders, customer specifications, and technical drawings.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to formulate quality plans within manufacturing instructions, including tool gauge concepts and First Article Inspection plans.
  • Work alongside shop personnel and engineers to address non-conforming materials, source inspections, and statistical process control (SPC) analysis as necessary.
  • Communicate requirements effectively to suppliers.
  • Provide technical assistance to shop operations as needed.
  • Establish and implement standards and methods for inspection.
  • Guide inspection teams, operators, and engineering staff to ensure adherence to specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with engineering to ensure the dissemination of key characteristics and develop robust quality control plans.
  • Examine production travelers for material specifications and manufacturability.
  • Lead improvement initiatives and flow down customer requirements to purchasing departments.
  • Conduct internal audits and facilitate root cause analysis and corrective action training.
  • Design and create inspection fixtures, tools, and gauges.
  • Act as a liaison between customers and suppliers regarding quality concerns.
  • Assist in the review and endorsement of work instructions.
  • Support Quality Assurance efforts for Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA).
  • Initiate and approve quality plans.
  • Deliver training and support for supplier nonconformance investigations.
  • Offer recommendations for quality enhancements.
  • Facilitate Quality Clinic support.
  • Establish sampling plans and over-inspection protocols to meet Quality Management System (QMS) standards.
  • Develop quality acceptance plans for parts.
  • Contribute to Value Stream Mapping processes.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by regulatory standards.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment and mentor junior staff.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience as a Quality Engineering Technician or in a similar role.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Familiarity with drawing interpretation and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Knowledge of various machining processes, quality assurance systems, calibration, and gauging.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of AS9100 Quality Systems requirements.
  • Experience in problem-solving to enhance business operations.
  • Able to define issues, gather data, analyze outcomes, and draw conclusions.
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with diverse engineering and technical teams.
  • Solid understanding of root cause analysis and corrective action processes.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field with three years of experience as a Quality Engineering Technician or in a higher-level role.
  • Three years of experience in a similar capacity.
  • AS13001 certification.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Understanding of manufacturing techniques.
  • Solid knowledge of AS9102/eCAV, CID, SPS & Fix Process.
