Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Access Specialist to join our Cancer Service Line team at The University of Chicago Medicine. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring that patients receive timely and compassionate care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate patient scheduling and appointments with multiple providers and ancillary departments.
  • Anticipate and address patient concerns and questions in a proactive and empathetic manner.
  • Verify patient information and medical records, and collaborate with pre-visit teams to obtain prior insurance authorizations.
  • Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including physicians, nursing staff, and community partners.
  • Provide information on clinical trials and disease diagnosis, and maintain statistics and reports to track patient needs and trends.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a high-volume healthcare environment.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse patient populations.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and scheduling templates.
  • Knowledge of hospital billing practices and HIPAA regulations.
