Position Title: Computational Research Advisor

Job Overview:


The Computational Research Advisor plays a crucial role in supporting academic researchers and their teams by delivering expert technical assistance. This position involves the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of specialized scientific software tailored to the needs of the research community. The advisor will also guide users in optimizing their use of advanced computing resources, including high-performance computing (HPC) systems and secure data storage solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support and guidance to researchers in utilizing HPC resources effectively.
  • Install and configure domain-specific applications, ensuring they meet the unique requirements of various research projects.
  • Conduct training sessions to educate users on the shared computing environment, including its scheduling systems and data storage capabilities.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation to assist users in navigating the Center's resources.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support as needed.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field; advanced degrees preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant IT experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Linux/Unix operating systems.
  • Familiarity with various build and installation tools such as CMake and Makefile.
  • Experience in deploying complex research software solutions (e.g., R, MatLab).
  • Proficient in programming languages commonly used in technical computing (e.g., C, C++, Fortran).
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., bash, Python).
  • Knowledge of High-Performance Computing and parallel processing systems.
  • Experience with secure computing environments and data protection protocols.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker).
  • Proficient in version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Experience with remote desktop technologies.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within teams on multiple projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in creating technical documentation.
