Control Systems Field Technician

An exceptional opportunity exists for a Field Engineer specializing in Control Systems. In this role, you will be tasked with the maintenance and support of propulsion control systems provided by Kongsberg Gruppen.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform both preventative and corrective maintenance on Kongsberg control systems.
  • Interpret technical drawings and control system architectures.
  • Utilize multimeters and software tools for diagnosing communication or loop errors.
  • Possess a solid understanding of Power Management Systems, including generators and governor control functionalities.
  • Work with AC/DC electrical motors.
  • Modify or enhance control logic as required.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as CAN, 232, 422, 485, and TCP/IP.
  • Timely completion and submission of timesheets and expense reports.
  • Take ownership of assigned service cases and trips.
  • Propose enhancements to products and communicate needs to the Service Manager or product development team.
  • Advise customers on potential upgrades and new products during onboard visits.
  • Implement measures to prevent errors in delivery and after-sales service.
  • Assist Aftermarket Sales with quotations for aftersales services.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Electromechanical, or Computer Engineering, or equivalent military/industry training.
  • Understanding of fundamental Electrical/Electronic control system principles, including PID controllers and communication protocols.
  • Ability to create and interpret technical documentation.
  • Experience troubleshooting low voltage electrical components and using multimeters.
  • Familiarity with PLC/SCADA systems and their architecture is highly advantageous.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to perform under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills with fluency in English.
  • Possess a valid passport.
  • Authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship.
  • Willingness to travel on short notice, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, for extended periods both domestically and internationally.
