Position Summary
The Senior Manager of Health & Safety will spearhead leadership initiatives, conduct accident investigations, and perform safety audits across the United States. This role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with safety regulations and fostering a positive safety culture within the organization. The individual will lead a dedicated team to coordinate safety activities throughout the region.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Management:
- Establish clear expectations, objectives, and goals for team members, promoting a collaborative and outcome-focused work environment.
- Assist in the formulation and execution of safety policies, procedures, and programs tailored for the region.
- Effectively navigate ambiguous tasks, employing strong problem-solving skills to recommend and implement successful safety solutions.
Change Management:
- Identify training requirements within the region and collaborate with the Director of Health & Safety Training to develop relevant training materials and implement necessary training programs.
- Exhibit exceptional communication skills, engaging credibly with diverse groups of employees, supervisors, and managers, as well as with federal, state, and local authorities regarding compliance and accident issues.
Regulatory Compliance & Reporting:
- Oversee safety practices, conduct investigations into accidents and workers' compensation claims, and manage accident reporting procedures to effectively mitigate risks and enhance safety awareness.
- Analyze operational incident frequencies and trends, perform root cause analyses, and determine appropriate corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
- Provide timely and accurate safety data and reports to regional leadership to inform decision-making processes.
- Stay informed and engaged with the regulatory community to anticipate compliance requirements.
- Adhere to all relevant company, OSHA, MSHA, DOT, state, and local regulations consistently.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Health & Safety or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in Health & Safety.
- ASP/CSP, MSP certification is advantageous.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of MSHA, OSHA, and DOT regulations.
- Proficient in computer applications, including the Office 365 Suite (SharePoint, Power Automate, etc.).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present information effectively to groups.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and impartiality during investigations.
- Skilled in managing multiple priorities and consistently meeting deadlines.
- Ensure accountability regarding health & safety practices across the region.
Working Conditions
Regular exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, and outdoor environments. Protective equipment is required while performing duties. Physical demands include walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing. The role may involve exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and requires effective communication with employees and visitors.
