Penn Medicine is committed to delivering exceptional patient care, advancing medical research, and educating future healthcare leaders. As a Diabetes Nurse Practitioner, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team that consults and manages patients with diabetes in the inpatient setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct clinical care to patients with diabetes, adhering to established protocols and evidence-based practice standards.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical records, documenting all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations in the electronic health record.
  • Identify yourself properly to patients and families, clarifying your role as a nurse practitioner if necessary.
  • Function within your scope and refer to collaborating physicians when outside of scope, or as directed by collaborating physicians or requested by patients and/or families.
  • Perform interventions specific to assigned patient populations and collaborative agreements.
  • Participate in performance improvement processes to meet quality of care and service standards.
  • Demonstrate awareness of professional responsibility as a role model to peers and members of the healthcare team.
  • Perform approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based on patient clinical status.
  • Address patient and family concerns, creating a therapeutic relationship to provide support.
  • Provide patient education, counseling, and instruction regarding patient diagnosis, medical treatments, medications, and preventative care.
  • Participate in and support accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
  • Precept NP students and other healthcare learners.
  • Identify patient/family needs for community resources and refer appropriately.
Credentials and Education
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
  • BLS/CPR, as a healthcare provider as per the American Heart Association (For providers in the ambulatory setting) required.
  • Certified Nurse Practitioner PA (Required)
  • Prescriptive Authority (Required)
Education or Equivalent Experience
  • Master of Arts or Science (Required)
  • Education Specialization: Master's Degree or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Nursing Equivalent Experience: • And New to practice or < 2.5 years, The CRNP must be reviewed by the Credentials Committee and approved by the Medical Board.
