About the Role

USA Health is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Legal Counsel to join our team. As a key member of our legal department, you will play a critical role in supporting the Chief Legal Counsel in the development, review, and management of contracts and other legal documents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Chief Legal Counsel in the development, review, and management of contracts and other legal documents, including merger and acquisition agreements, real estate leases, and intellectual property agreements.
  • Perform legal and factual research to draft and analyze contracts, policies, and other documents, and provide advice to internal clients.
  • Serve as a resource to the Chief Legal Counsel and other staff members on the legal and tax status of USA Health and its affiliates, leases, affiliation agreements, and other transactions.
  • Provide counsel and research on healthcare laws, including privacy, Medicare, Medicaid, and other government programs, fraud and abuse, physician self-referral and anti-kickback laws, and EMTALA.
  • Provide guidance on revenue cycle matters, including collection and third-party liability issues, and billing, coding, and other matters for compliance with government and commercial health plan requirements.
  • Develop compliance policies and procedures, and work closely with compliance to investigate and resolve compliance concerns.
  • Respond to patient and external institutional issues as assigned.
  • Provide counsel on medical staff matters, including bylaws, medical staff corrective action, and peer review, disciplinary actions of medical staff and house staff.
  • Assist in promoting efficiency of the legal department by preparing templates, forms, outlines, instructional materials, and other tools and resources.
  • Serve on committees and work groups (internal and external) as assigned.
Requirements
  • Completion of a law degree from an ABA accredited school of law.
  • Three years of legal experience as a licensed attorney.
  • Currently licensed and/or ability to obtain licensure with the Alabama State Bar to practice as an attorney-at-law in the state of Alabama.
  • Relevant healthcare regulatory and/or corporate work experience, including prior experience with contracts, hospitals, managed care plans, Medicare, Medicaid, and federal and state healthcare regulatory issues.
