Overview

Position Summary:

The Quality Control Technician is responsible for executing and adhering to quality assurance protocols and procedures to guarantee that products and materials are manufactured in compliance with established specifications while ensuring safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Quality Control Evaluation:

  • Perform tests and inspect concrete to assess quality or adherence to specifications.
  • Collect samples and evaluate the quality of materials associated with concrete.
  • Supervise equipment operation to confirm that concrete meets tolerance levels.
  • Document inspection or test results, including slump, air content, unit weight, temperature, and moisture content.
  • Enter test data into the company's quality control software.
  • Evaluate hardened concrete for compressive strength.
  • Input strength test results into the quality control software.
  • Investigate, assess, and address customer inquiries related to specific conditions, situations, quantities, and other factors affecting the product.
  • Oversee and maintain quality control software for the designated area.

Production and Processing:

  • Conduct tests on aggregates and batch plants, including aggregate gradation and moisture tests for state and specification projects as necessary.

Communication Skills:

  • Provide information to supervisors, colleagues, and contractors through various communication methods.
  • Effectively liaise with the dispatch office to ensure successful concrete shipping and testing.

General Responsibilities:

  • Regular attendance and physical presence at work are essential functions of this role.
  • This position may involve additional responsibilities not listed above, and the employee may be required to perform those duties to meet business needs.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
  • ACI Level 1, NICET Certification, or completion of the NRMCA Short Course on aggregates or concrete is required.
  • A valid driver's license is necessary.
  • IDOT PCC Level I or WDOT PCCTEC I certification(s) or higher are preferred.
  • Familiarity with raw materials, production processes, and quality control is preferred.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English is preferred.
  • Able to operate a smartphone or device.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Working Conditions:

  • Work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, heavy construction equipment, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Noise levels are typically moderate but can be high, requiring personal hearing protection at times.
  • Must be able to maintain professionalism and composure in stressful situations.
  • Local travel may be required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to communicate; frequently required to stand, walk, use hands, and reach with arms.
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must be able to navigate job sites with uneven and unpaved ground while managing concrete delivery.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must frequently bend to obtain samples, climb ladders with buckets of admixtures, and push wheelbarrows of concrete.
  • Must be able to operate controls on various equipment.
  • Must be able to work long and flexible hours as necessary.
  • Must be able to maneuver in and around plants, yards, and job sites as necessary.
  • Lift/carry up to 55 pounds frequently and lift up to 100 pounds occasionally.
