Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Saw Operator I to join our team at Ellwood Specialty Metals. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for receiving, storing, handling, and cutting material to meet shop and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate automatic saw equipment to accurately cut material to customer specification
  • Ensure quality via quality check post cut
  • Load and unload material with the aid of a forklift or a remote operated overhead crane
  • Complete paperwork and input information into the computer system, updating inventory
  • Set up and operate saw, selecting proper feeds and speeds, adjusting as needed
  • Inspect the quality of the material during and after the cut to ensure the piece is square
  • Use measuring instruments as necessary, including tape measuring tape and micrometer
  • Check identification on all material handled by stamping or marking with necessary numbers when required
  • Place saw crop ends in scrap boxes according to material grade
  • Perform saw blade changes when necessary
  • Deliver material to next area of operation as required
  • Complete required production reports, using computer system as required
  • Report defective material and faulty equipment to the Operations Manager or Maintenance Department immediately
Requirements
  • Working mechanical knowledge/aptitude applicable with experience
  • Able to understand basic correspondence, instructions, rules, policies, graphs, and/or charts
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic and use basic numerical concepts to complete job tasks
  • Ability to use measuring devices such as tapes and gauges where reading is direct and obvious
  • Vision includes acuity near and far, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception
  • Hearing ability to exchange information with co-workers and management
Working Conditions

The Saw Operator I position is located in a shop environment that offers protection from outside environmental conditions. The position requires standing or walking, performing medium to heavy work, exerting up to 50+ lbs. of force regularly and/or up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally (with assistance) to move objects.
