OBJECTIVE

The role involves evaluating blueprints and related documentation to create a comprehensive materials list and cost assessment, which offers a precise estimation of material expenses for the sales team and clients. These assessments are crucial for bidding processes and for verifying construction and labor costs on contractual projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collects details from sales representatives or clients regarding the materials needed for job pricing.
  • Examines blueprints, drawings, and selection sheets to identify specific details and rectify any discrepancies in collaboration with the Project Manager or client.
  • Utilizes estimating software (e.g., DQ2000, Estimating and Quote System) to calculate the linear and square footage necessary for constructing wall structures and components such as door headers, beams, and floor joists.
  • Supports the sales team by providing information on material availability, alternatives, and new products.
  • Keeps pricing data current and accurate.
  • Identifies ways to optimize the use of available stock materials.
  • Calculates cost factors and prepares estimates for management purposes, including bid preparation, vendor or subcontractor selection, and cost-effectiveness analysis.
  • Engages with clients, vendors, or other stakeholders to discuss and develop estimates and resolve any issues. May provide guidance to contractors on engineering matters to help reduce project costs.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY ROLE

This position does not entail supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

To excel in this role, an individual must effectively perform each essential duty. The qualifications listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

An associate degree in construction technology from a two-year college or technical institution is preferred. A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in the building construction sector is required.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting documents such as blueprints and technical manuals. Capable of writing standard reports and correspondence. Effective communication skills with customers and team members are essential. Strong teamwork is required.
  • Adept at performing calculations involving linear and square footage, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Familiarity with basic algebra and geometry concepts is necessary.
  • Ability to apply common sense to follow instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Capable of addressing problems involving multiple concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • One to two years of experience with Windows and Microsoft Office, along with the ability to learn estimating software. Experience with digitized software is advantageous.
  • This role significantly impacts the sales department, special projects, and manufacturing processes. Accurate material pricing is crucial for the company's competitive edge in securing new contracts and enhances production efficiency by providing precise material information.
