Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Patient Transport Coordinator to join our team at Tufts Medical Center. In this role, you will be responsible for the safe and timely transportation of patients to various departments within the hospital.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the safe, timely, and accurate transport of patients to their destination, including bringing the proper requested equipment
  • Ensuring the comfort of the patient by being attentive; offering blankets, checking modesty, and only engaging in appropriate conversation involving the patient
  • Assisting patient care staff and utilizing proper body mechanics when lifting and transferring patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers or beds
  • Notifying nursing personnel, clinician, technician or reception upon arrival for patient. Verifying correct patient identification
  • Alerting nursing staff immediately to any signs of patient distress or equipment malfunction
  • Completing transport quickly and efficiently; immediately notifying appropriate staff and leader when assignments are initiated and completed
  • Disinfecting transport equipment before and after use according to policy and manufacturer instructions for use. Removing linen, disinfecting and making up stretchers upon completion
  • Collecting and returning wheelchairs and stretchers to the proper holding areas. Ensuring that medical waste is disposed of according to established infection control and prevention procedures

Requirements:

  • Able to properly use phone and pager
  • Acts as a positive role model; possesses integrity, focus, commitment, flexibility, diplomacy and a team spirit
  • Ability to operate stretchers, wheelchairs and patient beds to safely move patients throughout hospital
  • Able to communicate both verbally and in writing in English. Able to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Able to identify scope of task and perform it in a timely and efficient manner
  • Ability to read, write, perform simple mathematical calculations and have basic knowledge of physical sciences at a level generally acquired through a high school education

Salary:$48,000 - $65,000 per year, based on experience.
