Senior Sensor Systems Engineer

In the context of NSCWDD's B (Electromagnetic and Sensor Systems) Department, specifically Codes B40 and B60, the role involves providing expertise in sensor systems throughout the entire acquisition lifecycle, from initial concept to ongoing support for US Navy (USN) and US Marine Corps (USMC) radar systems. The systems under our purview include Dual Band Radar (DBR), Ground Air Task Oriented Radar (G/ATOR), AN/SPY-1, AN/SPY-6, Enhanced Radar Data Display System (ERDDS), Enhanced Coherent Data Collection System (ECDCS), Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), among others.
Key Responsibilities
Primary Duties:
- Assist in the formulation and implementation of systems engineering strategies from requirement identification to design validation. Execute engineering plans in alignment with approved project acquisition strategies:
- Conduct technical analysis and systems engineering support to enhance architecture design, interoperability, specification analysis, and system sustainment of various projects;
- Create test and evaluation documentation, including laboratory testing protocols, new technology assessment documents, usability engineering reports, and laboratory testing of software/hardware test items developed by the design team;
- Research and draft systems/subsystem specification documents, ensuring compliance, completeness, and consistency of component and interface requirements with evolving system requirements and architectures.
- Support signal processing initiatives, including waveform management, clutter control, and electronic protection development; design electronic compatibility within systems; and assist in data collection and analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of signal processing systems.
Work Environment:
Responsibilities may take place in government or contractor office settings, laboratories, or field environments in direct support of USN/USMC operations. This may involve working aboard naval vessels or in various field locations as necessary.
Physical Requirements:
Travel to USN facilities, vessels, and other locations as required, as well as between contractor and government sites.
QualificationsEducation / Certifications:
Candidates must fulfill one or more of the following criteria:
- A Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, or Electronics Engineering.
- A Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physics from an accredited institution.
- A Master's degree in one of the aforementioned fields from an accredited university.
- A Ph.D. in one of the specified fields from an accredited institution.
Experience / Skills:
General Sensor Engineering Experience:
General experience is defined as experience gained post-degree:
- At least four (4) years with a Bachelor's degree
- At least two (2) years with a Master's degree
Specialized Experience:
Proven ability to perform intricate calculations and possess knowledge of practices necessary to evaluate advanced sensor systems concepts, specifications, and system integration.
