Position Overview

In collaboration with the NSCWDD's B Department, particularly Codes B40 and B60, this role entails delivering expert knowledge in sensor systems throughout the entire acquisition process, from initial concept to ongoing maintenance of radar systems utilized by the US Navy (USN) and US Marine Corps (USMC). The systems involved include, but are not limited to, Dual Band Radar (DBR), Ground Air Task Oriented Radar (G/ATOR), AN/SPY-1, AN/SPY-6, Enhanced Radar Data Display System (ERDDS), Enhanced Coherent Data Collection System (ECDCS), Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), and various other sensor technologies.
Key Responsibilities

Primary Job Functions:

  • Assist in the formulation and implementation of systems engineering strategies from requirement identification to design validation, ensuring alignment with approved project acquisition methodologies;
  • Conduct technical analyses and provide systems engineering support to enhance architecture design, interoperability, specification development, solution implementation, and system sustainability;
  • Create test and evaluation documentation, including laboratory testing protocols, new technology assessment reports, usability engineering documents, and laboratory testing of software/hardware prototypes;
  • Research and generate systems/subsystem specification documents, ensuring compliance, completeness, and consistency of component and interface requirements with both current and future system demands;
  • Support signal processing initiatives, which include waveform management, clutter control, and electronic protection development, while ensuring electronic compatibility within systems and conducting data collection and analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of signal processing systems.

Work Environment:

Responsibilities may be carried out in various settings, including government or contractor offices, laboratories, and field environments in direct support of USN/USMC operations. This may involve working on naval vessels, piers, dry docks, or other non-office environments as necessary.

Physical Requirements:

Travel to USN piers, ships, and dry docks may be required, along with movement between local contractor and government facilities.

Qualifications

Education / Certifications:

Candidates must meet one or more of the following educational criteria:

  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, or Electronics Engineering;
  • A Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physics from an accredited institution;
  • A Master's degree in any of the aforementioned fields;
  • A Ph.D. in any of the aforementioned fields.

Experience / Skills:

General Sensor Engineering Experience:

Experience is defined as the time elapsed since the award of the degree:

  • At least four (4) years of experience with a Bachelor's degree;
  • At least two (2) years of experience with a Master's degree.

Specialized Experience:

Proven ability to perform intricate calculations and possess knowledge of practices and principles essential for evaluating advanced sensor systems concepts, specifications, and system integration.
