Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Healthcare Coding Specialist will collaborate closely with Billing Specialists to ensure that data entry is both precise and comprehensive. This role encompasses all facets of medical coding for the services provided by healthcare professionals. The Coding Specialist must possess a thorough understanding of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems, interpret insurance regulations related to medical coding, and be familiar with daily balancing techniques. A solid grasp of medical terminology and the ability to read medical charts is essential, along with an understanding of the fundamental components of medical and ancillary procedures. The ultimate aim of the Healthcare Coding Specialist is to deliver high-quality, efficient service to both patients and payers of Bluestem Health.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Examine procedural and diagnostic coding for all services rendered.
  2. Educate healthcare providers and office personnel on accurate coding practices to enhance precision.
  3. Identify areas for improvement and communicate issues to the relevant supervisor.
  4. Input charges on a daily basis.
  5. Document modifications as necessary.
  6. Review and maintain up-to-date coding.
  7. Engage with providers for clarification when needed.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as required.

Qualifications:

· Minimum of three years of experience in family practice is preferred.

· Proficient in CPT and ICD-10 coding.

· Billing experience is advantageous but not mandatory.

· Familiarity with FQHC coding is preferred.

· Certification as a Medical Coder is preferred.

· Strong computer skills, particularly in data entry.

· Highly organized with the ability to meet deadlines.

· Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and accuracy.

· Self-motivated and capable of working independently.

· Ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of individuals.

· Commitment to maintaining a high level of confidentiality.

· Must be qualified to be bonded and pass a background check.
