Position Overview:

The Facilities Management department is looking for a proactive and motivated Lead Facilities Project Inspector to lead our project inspection initiatives.

This role involves verifying and validating services provided by contractors in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing disciplines. The selected individual will cultivate relationships, engage with stakeholders, and ensure high-quality work is performed on runways, aprons, facilities, landscaping, and related infrastructure within the airport campus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts routine and complex inspections of new electrical and mechanical installations, alterations, and repairs throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with approved plans, specifications, calculations, and codes. Evaluates facilities to identify necessary maintenance and repairs.
  • Oversees project lifecycle management; monitors project phases for timely delivery, schedules, and compliance with safety standards. Maintains documentation, prepares reports, and tracks progress against contract schedules. Reviews and approves project change orders, makes field adjustments, and documents changes.
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, contractors, and project representatives to coordinate work activities, ensuring compliance with safety and security protocols. Communicates project status, resolves discrepancies, and participates in project meetings, developing proposals and scopes of work.
  • Provides technical guidance and interpretations regarding various codes, laws, and regulations related to building construction. Engages in meetings and stays informed about new trends and innovations in building inspection and plan checking.
  • Analyzes specifications and interprets plans and codes, prepares certificates of final inspection, and issues notices for code violations.
  • Maintains comprehensive records related to inspection activities, including contract payments, labor, materials, equipment, progress, non-conforming work, safety issues, and work performed.
  • Collaborates on project reviews, develops scopes of work, generates bids and project cost estimates, participates in contractor selection, and coordinates contract execution.
  • Assists in training and mentoring new personnel, responds to emergency situations as needed, and performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Participates in initiatives to enhance or streamline programs, practices, documents, reports, and budgets; remains current with industry and regulatory trends.
  • Operates specialized equipment, including computers and engineering software, and travels to various sites as necessary.
  • Clarifies responsibilities, assigns tasks, and establishes expectations; delivers presentations and evaluates programs and procedures.
  • Participates in the selection and onboarding of team members, providing feedback and coaching for performance, while fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in engineering or a closely related field.
  • Four years of relevant engineering experience in public works, including drafting and inspection responsibilities.
  • Alternatively, two years of relevant college coursework and two years of paraprofessional engineering technician experience.
  • A valid California Class C driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Authority's vehicle insurance policy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, construction management, or related coursework.
  • Certifications from recognized organizations in facilities management, building inspection, or safety.
