Surface Preparation Specialist

The Industrial Grinder is responsible for refining and cleaning castings to rectify imperfections and/or prepare surfaces for subsequent finishing processes, utilizing industrial-grade air tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Extract products or workpieces from production machinery.
- Choose production machinery based on product specifications.
- Attach materials or workpieces to production machinery, using cranes and hoists.
- Operate controls to modify, initiate, or halt machinery during grinding and polishing operations.
- Assess dimensions of finished products or workpieces to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Identify defects such as sand holes, cracks, and splits for necessary repairs.
- Document operational or production metrics.
- Maintain tools and machinery in optimal working condition, conducting regular inspections as needed.
- Ensure the workspace is clean and orderly.
- Comply with all safety protocols.
- Collaborate with team leads and colleagues to enhance operational processes.
- Execute other related or unrelated tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in the English language, including vocabulary, spelling, composition rules, and grammar.
- Ability to adhere to instructions and established work procedures.
- Meticulousness and attention to detail are essential.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Previous experience in manufacturing settings is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Successful completion of TB Woods PIV/Forklift License training and certification may be required upon hiring.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
The work environment involves regular exposure to noise levels exceeding 85 decibels, dust, and varying weather conditions. Certain workstations may necessitate the use of a respirator. The incumbent may be required to work in a confined space for most of their shift. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory during work hours.
Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, possess good hand and finger dexterity, and perform actions such as leaning, bending, twisting, and reaching. The role requires close-range vision and the ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust machine or vehicle controls. The incumbent must also be able to endure the use of vibrating tools for prolonged periods. Power/air tools may include, but are not limited to, Cup Grinder, Cone Grinder, Burr Grinder, Air Chipper, Chipping Hammer, Chipping Gun, and Saw.
Compensation: This position offers a minimum starting rate of $18.87/hour.
