Job Summary and Qualifications

The Vascular Technologist (sonographer) is responsible for performing diagnostic procedures, including arterial and venous Dopplers and vascular imaging, as per physician directives. The sonographer applies knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and instrumentation to deliver critical information to assist physicians. Responsibilities also include maintaining departmental supplies and equipment and participating in quality control measures.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

1. Education: One of the following:

A. Completion of a training program in:

  1. Ultrasonography
  2. Radiologic Technology
  3. Vascular Technology

B. Associate's degree or higher.

2. Experience: None required.

3. Completion of initial and ongoing training specific to the patient population served.

4. Preferred: Two years of experience as a vascular technologist in a clinical setting.

Licenses and Certifications:

Must possess and maintain certification from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in:

1. RVT – Registered Vascular Technologist

2. RVS – Registered Vascular Specialist

Key Responsibilities:

1. Stay updated on advancements in medical sonography techniques and equipment.

2. Ensure physician orders are obtained for all exams and prioritize STAT requests effectively.

3. Adhere to safety protocols and recognize potential crisis situations to mitigate risks.

4. Follow infection control procedures and maintain a clean work environment.

5. Manage patient reports, including retrieval of previous records and communication with physicians.

6. Monitor supply inventory and assist with departmental reporting.

Additional Responsibilities:

1. May handle radiopharmaceuticals and contrast agents as needed.

2. Assist in orienting new staff and supervising students as directed.

3. Uphold the mission and vision of Methodist Healthcare and deliver exceptional customer service.

4. Comply with safety policies and report unsafe conditions promptly.

5. Maintain ethical standards and report any violations of conduct.

6. Perform other duties as assigned.
