Position: Police Property Management Technician

About the Role: The Police Property Management Technician plays a crucial role in overseeing the inventory management of police assets, including impounded items and vehicles. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records, coordinating with relevant agencies, ensuring the proper handling and disposal of property, and supporting various administrative functions.

General Overview and Classification Standards

The Police Property Management Technician is tasked with the responsibility of ensuring effective inventory control of police property, including seized items and vehicles. Key duties involve assisting in inventory management processes, conducting audits, and acting as a liaison for the Atlanta Police Department (APD) and the Bureau of Motor Transport Services.

  • Evaluates operational efficiency and space utilization
  • Receives, stores, and distributes property and equipment
  • Ensures appropriate handling and disposal of property and vehicles
  • Maintains vehicle status and documentation
  • Organizes work assignments and inventory management
  • Communicates with vendors to fulfill departmental requirements
  • Participates in meetings and training sessions for professional growth
Decision-Making:

Adheres to established procedures and guidelines to complete tasks effectively.

Leadership Responsibilities:

May offer guidance and training to junior staff or interns.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Requires familiarity with local regulations, property management protocols, and warehouse operations. Proficiency in effective communication, report generation, and computer usage is essential. Must possess the ability to operate various equipment, interpret technical documents, and engage effectively with individuals.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with a minimum of 6 months of clerical experience in a comparable law enforcement setting. Equivalent training and experience may be taken into account.

Preferred Education & Experience: An associate's degree or vocational training, coupled with 1-3 years of clerical experience in a similar law enforcement context, is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications: A valid Georgia driver's license is required. Certification in Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) training is desirable.
