Job Title: IT Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced IT Support Specialist to join our team at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support to faculty, staff, and students, as well as maintaining and administering IT infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support to users, including troubleshooting and resolving hardware and software issues
  • Maintain and administer IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and desktops
  • Install, patch, and repair PC hardware, software, conferencing equipment, and peripherals
  • Manage and monitor data backups and implement best practices for IT security
  • Coordinate IT asset activities, including procurement, inventory management, and asset surplus
  • Provide end-user training and support for college and university IT initiatives
Requirements:
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience supporting a broad range of IT equipment and software
  • Strong working knowledge of managing both Windows and Apple operating systems
  • Experience managing computer assets, purchasing IT equipment, and inventory tracking
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in a technical computer-oriented field or related certifications
  • Previous experience in an academic environment
