PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensure the safety of individuals in the swimming pool, on the surrounding deck, and throughout the aquatic facility.
Assist in organizing community events such as family swim nights and themed activities for local groups.
Lead safety initiatives during inclement weather or when swimming is not permitted.
Engage with pool patrons in a friendly and courteous manner, maintaining a positive demeanor while addressing inquiries.
Educate swimmers on safety protocols, whistle signals, and emergency procedures.
Consistently wear a whistle while on duty and carry personal protective equipment as required.
Maintain vigilant observation of the water at all times, ready to assist as needed.
Provide timely rescue and care for individuals in distress or injury.
Collaborate with fellow lifeguards to practice emergency drills and enhance communication skills for effective rescues.
Oversee the general cleanliness and maintenance of the pool area, ensuring that such tasks do not interfere with monitoring swimmers.
Act as a positive representative of the organization to all participants and fellow staff members.
Notify supervisors promptly if unable to fulfill a scheduled shift to ensure adequate coverage.

Qualifications:

Valid Lifeguard Certification:
Pool, Aquatic Center, or Waterfront; along with current CPR for Professional Rescuers; or willingness to obtain certification.
Current First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
Ability to work in a dynamic environment that requires constant vigilance of swimmers, effective communication with community members, and adherence to emergency protocols.
Physical capability to swim 300 meters using crawl stroke with rotary breathing without stopping; tread water with hands elevated for 2 minutes; and retrieve a 10-pound diving brick from the pool bottom.
Must be able to swim 300 meters at least twice weekly during team training sessions.

Ability to routinely lift and bend with weights exceeding 20 pounds; emergency situations may require lifting up to 100 pounds.

In emergency scenarios and during routine drills, lifeguards must demonstrate their skills in accordance with their certifications, training, and established protocols.

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

Must be at least 18 years old.
Demonstrated proficiency in lifeguarding and swimming techniques.

EDUCATION:

High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS:

Lifeguard certification relevant to the facility, AED/CPR for Professional Rescuers, and First Aid certifications are mandatory. The organization will cover certification costs.

Water Safety Instructor certification is preferred.
