About the Indiana State Prison:

As part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Indiana State Prison is dedicated to enhancing public safety by offering meaningful and effective pathways for successful reintegration. We aim to exemplify best practices in corrections, return productive citizens to their communities, and foster a culture of accountability, integrity, and professionalism. The Indiana State Prison is a maximum-security facility for adult males and is recognized as the oldest correctional institution operated by the Department of Correction.

Salary Information:

The starting salary for this position is typically $42,000, but may vary based on educational background or relevant work experience.

A Typical Day:

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Conducting and facilitating training for new employees, as well as ongoing training for existing staff.
  • Assisting in the creation of training programs tailored to meet specific performance goals.
  • Evaluating trainee performance against established benchmarks.
  • Collaborating with supervisors to ensure compliance with training standards and procedures.
  • Maintaining accurate training records and preparing detailed reports.

Qualifications for Success:

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • A High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).
  • A minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience in corrections, education, training, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with principles and practices of staff development and training.
  • Understanding of adult learning theories.
  • Knowledge of correctional training issues, treatment programs, custody matters, and departmental policies.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement detailed lesson plans.
  • Successful completion of all required training, including Train the Trainer programs.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position involves supervising incarcerated individuals and requires a high degree of judgment and care.
