ROLE OVERVIEW

Under the supervision of the Community College Police leadership, you will be responsible for upholding relevant federal, state, local, and district regulations. Your duties will include enforcing policies regarding the use of college facilities; conducting arrests, preparing documentation, providing testimony in legal proceedings, managing traffic flow, and overseeing parking regulations. You will patrol the college's premises and ensure the safety and security of students, visitors, and staff.

We are looking for experienced candidates who possess a valid California P.O.S.T. Basic Academy certificate. There are several full-time positions available, each requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week throughout the year. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply as testing will be available for anticipated roles.

This recruitment aims to create a pool of qualified candidates to fill current and future temporary and permanent positions within the district for up to one year.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

The District Administrative Center, strategically located, manages administrative tasks and provides essential services to the three colleges within the Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD).

SALARY STRUCTURE

New Employees:
Typically, new hires will start at the initial step of the designated salary range.

Current Employees:

Employees who receive a promotion will be placed at a salary step in the new range that ensures a minimum increase equivalent to at least one step in salary.

Both new and existing employees may qualify for advanced step placement as outlined in the Personnel Commission's Rules for Classified Employees.


ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduation or equivalent educational attainment is required.

LICENSES AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must obtain a valid California P.O.S.T. Basic Academy certificate
Successfully complete a physical agility assessment
Secure a valid California driver's license upon employment
Hold valid First Aid and CPR certifications
Meet the criteria set forth in California Government Code Sections 1029, 1030, 1031 et seq.
Be at least 21 years old
Pass a thorough background investigation to verify compliance with department standards
Upon receiving a conditional job offer, successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
Complete department-specific field training
Pass a polygraph examination

SELECTION PROCESS
This examination is open to the public and current district employees seeking promotional opportunities.

The selection process may include various components:
Written Test = Qualifying (pass/fail)
Technical Interview = 100% of final score

ELIGIBILITY LIST

After the examination, an eligibility list will be compiled based on the final examination scores combined with applicable seniority and veteran's credits. Candidates will be ranked according to their total scores, and certification will be made from the top three ranks on the list.

This eligibility list will be utilized to fill current vacancies for up to one year following the technical interview.


PROBATIONARY PERIOD

All appointments made from eligibility lists for initial or promotional appointments, with certain exceptions, will be probationary for a period of six (6) months or one hundred thirty (130) days of paid service, whichever is longer.

Classified management, police, and designated executive positions will have a probationary period of one (1) year from the date of initial appointment or promotion.
