Under general supervision, as a Community Safety Officer, the incumbent performs patrol duties on foot or by vehicle to safeguard the campus and visiting personnel, property, and facilities against accidents, harm, theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access; enforces all institutional policies, local codes, and state and federal laws; apprehends offenders; provides general information and assistance to the public; and may conduct investigations.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  1. Conduct foot patrols across the campus for extended periods in varying weather conditions and terrains.
  2. Operate vehicles in compliance with traffic laws and be prepared to exit the vehicle swiftly in emergencies.
  3. Respond to emergency calls or pursue fleeing suspects, navigating obstacles as necessary.
  4. Engage in crime prevention by recognizing signs of suspicious activity and documenting details.
  5. Apprehend offenders using appropriate physical force when necessary, including handcuffing and issuing citations.
  6. Provide security for large events by maintaining vigilance and monitoring for unusual activity.
  7. Investigate incidents related to assigned cases, taking necessary actions to resolve issues.
  8. Perform additional safety-related services such as assisting with vehicle issues and directing traffic.
  9. Participate in emergency preparedness and safety programs.
  10. React to emergencies by providing first aid and assisting injured individuals.
  11. Act as watch commander during assigned shifts.
  12. Complete various unscheduled duties as directed by supervisors.
OTHER DUTIES

Performs other responsibilities as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
