Key Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care through group and individual counseling in accordance with current treatment plans.
- Document patient interactions and progress in a clear, concise, and timely manner.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, while setting clear boundaries.
- Participate in patient rounds and teams as per program guidelines.
- Complete assigned patient care tasks and interventions as per program guidelines.
- Intervene in managing complex patient situations and remain vigilant at all times.
- Participate in leading and co-leading patient groups to foster a supportive environment.
- Provide and supervise community activities, including transportation of patients to and from activities.
- Offer direction and supervision to patients as needed, while adhering to established program policies and protocols.
- Assume leadership roles when functioning in charge counselor positions, delegating duties and providing supervision as necessary.
- Communicate patient milieu and therapeutic environment information to relevant staff in a timely manner.
- Follow program and hospital-wide policies and procedures regarding medication administration.
- Report and document missed doses to relevant staff.
- Communicate observations related to medication side effects and desired effects to medical staff in a timely manner.
- Support nursing staff in assisting patients in acquiring skills to successfully self-medicate.
- Identify patient strengths and deficits related to ADLs and initiate interventions to meet these needs.
- Assess sleep patterns and assist patients in developing more appropriate sleep cycles, notifying the clinical team as necessary.
- Assist patients in maintaining and keeping various appointments.
- Complete mandatory in-service requirements to maintain professional growth and competency.
- Identify areas of strength and areas needing improvement with supervisor.
- Maintain competency for treating age-specific patient populations.
- Use supervision effectively to enhance professional growth and development.
- Attend and participate in rounds and case conferences as appropriate.
High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree preferred. No experience required, but one year of patient care or related experience is preferred, preferably in a psychiatric setting.
Skills and Certifications- Verbal and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Driver's license (MA, CT, NH, NY, RI, VT) preferred, with the ability to meet hospital driving standards.
- Medication Administration Program Certification (SELECT PROGRAMS ONLY); applicants without certification will have a specified time period to complete a McLean-sponsored certification program.
- Basic computer skills to use electronic or online systems for communication, clinical, and administrative purposes.
