Role Summary
We are currently seeking a skilled Paralegal to provide comprehensive support within our Peoria office. The ideal candidate will assist attorneys in delivering legal services to vulnerable populations, including low-income families, seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities. Our focus is on addressing legal issues that affect our clients' fundamental needs, such as safety, healthcare access, housing stability, and financial security.

Key Responsibilities
The Paralegal will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining regular communication with clients to update them on their case progress.
  • Drafting legal documents and correspondence as directed by attorneys.
  • Preparing necessary documentation for client services.
  • Ensuring case files are complete and organized.
  • Generating notifications for court appearances and managing court schedules.
  • Collaborating with attorneys on various legal matters, including family law, domestic violence, administrative law, Social Security Disability claims, and landlord-tenant disputes.
  • Assisting attorneys with the preparation of legal documents, scheduling court dates, electronic filing, and managing client appointments.
  • Entering and managing client data within case management systems.
  • Performing general office tasks such as typing, copying, and emailing.
  • Assisting with the collection of medical and other relevant records.
  • Participating in off-site client intake as needed.

Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time position requiring 37.5 hours per week. Prairie State Legal Services offers a competitive salary range of $42,000 to $54,139 annually, commensurate with experience. Our comprehensive benefits package includes:

Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess:

  • A 2-year associate degree, a 4-year bachelor's degree, or a paralegal certificate.
  • Prior experience in a legal setting is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and online tools.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel to various office locations.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience serving low-income populations.
